Parking

Parking lots at apartment buildings are mostly shared, and residents can park in any parking lot in the parking lot next to the building. If a resident has a disability or reduced mobility, a specially marked parking space can be requested by applying to the Bílastæðasjóður.

Parking lots at apartment buildings are shared unless there is a notarization to the effect that specific parking spaces come with certain apartments, in which case they are marked as such. Shared parking spaces cannot be divided unless all owners agree to it and then notarized changes are made to the property transfer declaration (eignaskiptayfirlýsing). If parking spaces are shared, all owners are allowed to park in the spaces available.

If the owner of an apartment who is authorized to use a shared parking lot requests that charging equipment for electric cars be installed there, the housing association, its board and other owners are obliged to comply with that request and enforce it. The costs associated with setting up charging equipment for electric cars are joint costs of all the owners who are authorized to use the parking lot in question, whether the parking lot will continue to be used as a general parking lot or only for charging electric cars, to the extent that it is a cost due to shared ownership.

If a resident needs a specially marked parking space due to a disability or reduced mobility, it is possible to apply for it here and the request will be processed.
